Bailey's Redtwig Dogwood
Cornus sericea ‘Baileyi’
Cornus sericea 'Baileyi' is a vigorous, deciduous shrub prized for its brilliant, bright red winter stems, showy white spring flowers, and excellent fall color. Unlike the species, this cultivar is clump-forming and does not spread aggressively by rhizomes, making it a well-behaved choice for gardens. Its oval, medium green leaves turn attractive shades of red and purple in autumn, and its bare, fiery red branches provide stunning winter interest. In late spring, it produces flat-topped clusters of creamy-white flowers, followed by small, white berry-like fruits that attract birds. It is tolerant of full shade and wet soils, making it an outstanding choice for rain gardens, stream banks, and winter-interest borders.
