Common Calla Lily
Zantedeschia aethiopica, Common Calla Lily
Zantedeschia aethiopica is a stately, moisture-loving perennial prized for its elegant, pure white, trumpet-shaped flowers (spathes) and lush, glossy, arrow-shaped foliage. This classic, rhizomatous plant forms a dramatic, spreading clump of large, dark green, leathery leaves with prominent veins. From late spring through summer, it produces tall, sturdy stems bearing the iconic, fragrant, creamy-white spathes that surround a slender, yellow, finger-like spadix, creating a sophisticated, long-lasting display that attracts bees and other pollinators. Exceptionally adaptable to wet conditions, it is an outstanding choice for bog gardens, pond margins, rain gardens, containers, and as a bold accent in moist, sunny borders.
