Black and Blue Brazilian Sage
Salvia guaranitica ‘Black and Blue’
Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue' is a striking, semi-evergreen perennial prized for its dramatic, deep blue flowers with contrasting black calyxes and its long, late-season bloom period. This vigorous, shrubby sage forms an upright, branching, mounding clump of large, triangular to heart-shaped, textured, aromatic, medium to dark green leaves. From mid-summer through fall, and often until the first hard frost, it produces an abundance of tall, upright stems bearing showy, two-lipped, tubular flowers in a rich, deep, cobalt or violet-blue, emerging from striking, contrasting near-black to dark purple calyxes. The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. With its excellent heat and humidity tolerance, deer resistance, and dramatic bicolor flowers, it is an outstanding choice for perennial borders, mass plantings, cottage gardens, containers, and pollinator gardens.
