Bloodgood London Plane
Platanus acerfolia ‘Bloodgood’
The Bloodgood London Plane is a legendary, widely planted shade tree prized for its majestic stature, striking ornamental bark, and exceptional urban tolerance. As one of the most popular cultivars of this hybrid species, 'Bloodgood' was specifically selected for its vigorous growth and superior resistance to anthracnose and other diseases. Its massive, spreading canopy of large, maple-like, deep green leaves provides dense, cooling shade throughout the summer before turning a pleasing yellowish-brown in autumn. The true year-round spectacle is the bark: smooth outer flakes peel away to reveal a mottled mosaic of creamy white, olive green, and warm tan. Fast-growing, tough, and adaptable, it is the quintessential street tree and park specimen, thriving where few other trees can.
