Phantom Panicle Hydrangea
Hydrangea panicle ‘Vanilla Strstd’
Hydrangea paniculata 'Phantom' is a remarkable, award-winning panicle hydrangea celebrated for producing the largest flower heads of any hydrangea species, with enormous, cone-shaped panicles reaching up to 15 inches (40 cm) long . This vigorous, fast-growing deciduous shrub forms a rounded, multi-stemmed mound of dark green, ovate, coarsely textured leaves that provide a lush backdrop for the spectacular blooms. From midsummer through fall, it produces sturdy, upright stems bearing dense, conical panicles of creamy-white florets that emerge with subtle lime-green tints, gradually blush to a soft, romantic pink as the season progresses, and persist well into autumn . Unlike many hydrangeas with heavy flowers, 'Phantom' is prized for its exceptionally strong, non-flopping stems, which hold the massive flower heads upright even after heavy rain . It received the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit and is an outstanding choice for borders, hedges, specimen plantings, cut flower gardens, and containers.
