Margarita BOP Foothill Penstemon
Penstemon heterophyllus ‘Margarita BOP’
Penstemon heterophyllus 'Margarita BOP' is a stunning, California native perennial prized for its vivid, blue-violet flowers, bright golden-green new growth, and exceptional drought tolerance. This compact, mounding selection forms a tidy clump of slender, linear, blue-green leaves, with the new foliage emerging in a striking, luminous, golden-yellow to chartreuse hue. From late spring through summer, it produces an abundance of tall, branching spikes bearing showy, tubular, two-lipped flowers in a brilliant, clear sky blue to violet-blue, often fading to purple with age, creating a breathtaking display that attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Extremely drought and heat tolerant once established, it is an outstanding choice for water-wise gardens, slopes, rock gardens, borders, containers, and native plant landscapes.
