Pygmy Date Palm
Phoenix roebelenii, Dwarf Date Palm, Miniature Date Palm
The Pygmy Date Palm is a elegant and popular small-scale palm, perfect for adding sophisticated tropical structure to patios, entrances, and bright interiors. It features a single, slender trunk often covered in attractive diamond-shaped leaf base patterns, topped with a graceful crown of finely textured, arching, feathery (pinnate) fronds. While it has long, sharp spines at the base of each leaf, its refined appearance and adaptability to container life have made it a landscaping favorite.
-
Elegant, Finely Textured Fronds: Soft, arching, dark green pinnate leaves create a light, airy canopy.
-
Perfect Scale for Containers & Entryways: Slow-growing to a manageable 6-10 feet, ideal for pots, flanking doorways, or small gardens.
-
Bright Light for Best Growth: Prefers full sun to partial shade; tolerates indoor bright light well.
-
Caution: Sharp Spines: The leaf stems (petioles) are armed with long, needle-sharp spines that require careful handling.
-
Warmth-Loving: Best in frost-free climates (zones 10-11) or as a seasonal container plant brought indoors in winter.
