Giant Leopard Plant
Farfugium japonicum ‘Gigantea’, Giant Ligularia, Leopard Plant
Giant Leopard Plant ‘Gigantea’ (Farfugium japonicum) is a bold foliage perennial prized for its exceptionally large, round, glossy green leaves. Unlike spotted leopard plant varieties, ‘Gigantea’ offers a clean, architectural look that brings calm structure and visual weight to shaded garden spaces.
Thriving in partial to full shade, this plant is an excellent choice for areas where many ornamentals struggle. Its lush foliage forms a dense clump, creating an instant focal point under trees, along shaded pathways, or in Japanese- and woodland-inspired landscapes. In late summer to early fall, tall flower stalks emerge, topped with cheerful yellow daisy-like blooms that rise above the foliage.
Well-suited to coastal and mild-climate gardens, Giant Leopard Plant performs best in rich, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Once established, it is a dependable, long-lived perennial that elevates any shade garden with minimal maintenance.
