European Grey Sedge, Eurasian Grey Sedge
Carex divulsa
Carex divulsa, commonly known as Berkeley Sedge or European Grey Sedge, is a durable, evergreen perennial grass prized for its fine-textured, deep green foliage and its exceptional adaptability to a wide range of conditions, from dry shade to wet soils. This European native forms a dense, arching, fountain-like clump of narrow, grassy leaves that provide year-round structure and color. In late spring to early summer, it produces small, inconspicuous, greenish flower spikes that mature to brown. Exceptionally tough, it tolerates drought, heat, humidity, and full shade, making it an outstanding choice for mass plantings, borders, edging, under trees, containers, and as a low-maintenance, no-mow ground cover or lawn alternative.
