Astilbe
Astilbe chinensis ‘Visions’
Astilbe brings a touch of soft, feathery elegance to the shaded garden with its fluffy plumes of white flowers and lush, fern-like foliage. This compact perennial is a champion for brightening up dim corners, thriving in moist, shady conditions where many other flowering plants struggle. Blooming in summer, it offers a long season of airy texture and light, making it an indispensable choice for woodland borders, waterside plantings, and adding delicate structure to cut flower arrangements.
Feathery White Summer Plumes: Produces upright, conical clusters of tiny, delicate white flowers that create a soft, luminous effect in summer.
Lush and Textured Foliage: Features deeply cut, dark green leaves with a soft texture that provides attractive ground cover even when not in bloom.
Compact and Clump-Forming Habit: Grows into a neat, rounded mound, typically reaching 14-16 inches in both height and spread, perfect for the front of borders.
Thrives in Shade and Moist Soil: Prefers part to full shade and consistently moist, well-drained soil, making it ideal for challenging shady spots.
Low Maintenance and Winter Hardy: Dies back in winter and re-emerges vigorously in spring; requires minimal care beyond ensuring adequate moisture.
