Monterey Carpet Manzanita
Arctostaphylos hookeri ‘Monterey Carpet’
The Monterey Carpet Manzanita is a superior, low-growing evergreen ground cover selected for its exceptional garden tolerance, dense habit, and striking dark red-purple bark . A cultivated variety of the rare Hooker's manzanita, it forms an attractive, weed-suppressing mat of small, pointed, bright green to dark green leaves . In late winter to early spring, the plant is adorned with small clusters of delicate, urn-shaped flowers that range from white to pale pink, adding subtle beauty to the low-growing carpet . This slow-growing but reliable California native is an outstanding choice for erosion control on banks, filling small spaces, and adding fine texture to coastal and wildlife gardens .
