Summerlong Lemon Mexican Giant Hyssop
Agastache mexicanan Summerlong Lemon
Agastache mexicana 'Balsumlem', commonly sold under the trade name Summerlong™ Lemon, is a compact, long-blooming perennial prized for its bright lemon-yellow flower spikes and aromatic, anise-scented foliage . This award-winning selection from the Summerlong™ series is earlier to flower and has a longer bloom season than many other agastache varieties, producing dense, upright spikes of tubular, two-lipped, bright yellow blooms from late spring through summer and often into early fall . The nectar-rich flowers are a magnet for hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The lance-shaped to narrowly ovate, deep green foliage is highly fragrant when crushed, releasing a refreshing scent reminiscent of lemon and anise, which can be used to make herbal tea . With its dense, mounded, upright habit and excellent tolerance for heat, drought, and poor soils, this low-maintenance, deer-resistant perennial is an outstanding choice for sunny borders, rock gardens, pollinator gardens, and containers.
